Marsha Borys has been a music educator in the Rochester and Batavia areas for many years. She received her Bachelors degree in music education from Nazareth College. During her first year at Nazareth, she began teaching piano and organ lessons at a music store in downtown Rochester and found that to be her passion. Mrs. Borys enjoys teaching students from age four through adult. She teaches a variety of styles of music along with the basic curriculum that includes theory and technique. Scales and chords are also taught as they are the foundation of music. Mrs. Borys has had many students participate in Genesee County and New York State School Music Association solo festivals. They have all received high scores from their adjudicators. Some are pursuing a piano major in music.
Mrs. Borys has two recitals every year: one at Christmas and one in the spring. She feels it is important for students to memorize music and share with others the beauty of their performance. The recitals also give the students a goal to work toward. These prove to be a joy for both students and their families. She feels music is something to be shared. Students of hers have also accompanied their school choirs with the help of her instruction.
Mrs. Borys has been a church organist and pianist for over 30 years. She has played for numerous weddings and funerals. She has also accompanied many soloists. She currently plays for two traditional services as well as playing in the band for the contemporary service at the Bergen United Methodist Church.
